Dillon first learned to read from his Dad sitting in his old recliner with Dillon on his lap on reading him the Little House On The Prairie books every night before he went to bed, and his mom reading him idle children stories of which his favorite was Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel. This sparked Dillon love in reading by allowing him to think of a time long gone, and worlds that didn't exist. This love of reading was then fueled more by Veterans Memorial Library's summer reading program. Dillon believes people read for countless reasons, the main purpose would be to gain knowledge. There exist countless books to teach a convey knowledge of all forms to all people this in Dillons belief is the most important function of reading. Others read for entertainment to lose themselves in a story; be fully immersed in a world not their own. Things impossible in there world suddenly surround their thoughts to sum this up with a quote "you never know where a good book may lead you". Others read to escape the life they have, perhaps in their life they are surrounded by violence, or live a life of total isolation, perhaps they've lost themselves in depression, these reasons go on but the essence is that there reality is better when their mind is elsewhere. If you enjoy reading then you are a good reader. The hardest part of reading for Dillon has always been getting interested in a slow starting book, and being able to put a great book down. There are many ways to find good books Dillon likes to ask his friends who like the same type of books as he does, going into the section of books he like and randomly picking one, or searching online for related books. Dillon is always reading when he has time; he finds it to be one of his favorite pass times.
Dillon learned to write like most children he was taught by his parent and teachers. People write for many reasons the first would be to convey information or to store information Dillon believes this is the main use of writing. Sense that it has been adapted for many uses including self expression it’s used to convey feelings or to vent. Writing also gives you the ability to create which is beyond valuable you can create a world with no problems, or one with the same problems and solve them your way. Another main use of writing is to tell stories, which are used to inspire, shock, entertain, and a great many other things. To be a great writer requires a great many different things and individual talents for what you are writing, if you wrote an epic you would want to be a great story teller, if writing an informational book you would want to be very knowledgeable. Some general characteristics include well spoken and knowing your audience. Dillon's favorite type of writing is self expressive poetry. He often writes about how he feels or how a situation can be viewed. Dillon writes whenever he is feeling overwhelmed or when he feels strongly about something.
